learners & leaders of liberty & light seek to have the strength of this great man who said:

“I prefer to be true to myself,
even at the hazard of
incurring the ridicule of
others, rather than to be false, and to incur my own abhorrence.”

                      –Frederick Douglass

Our Vision

We have a vision of these children entering adulthood with the abilities of statesmen; with confidence in their own unique mission and vision; with the ability and strength of character to think and act for themselves and discern amidst all of the confusion of the world; to value liberty, and understand what it takes to preserve it. We hope we can help these precious young people know their own worth, love learning, always be seekers and defenders of truth and virtue and go forward to fulfill their own unique missions in life, carrying forth the banner of liberty and shining their lights of knowledge, wisdom, and goodness into the dark places in the world.

Our Story

Hi, I’m Harmony! I’ve been homeschooling since 2015, but in 2018 I let 2 of my kids go back to public school. In 2019 as I knelt in prayer asking God what he wanted me to do about the things I was fighting against in the public school system (and this was BEFORE Covid!), I received a strong impression: stop fighting against and start fighting for; fight for a way for more families to leave a system that does not align with their vision and values. 4L Commonwealth is the result, and in the time since it’s become even more apparent that the status quo system is failing kids and families.

Shortly after that prayer, I met Jessica, who had been wanting to do the same thing, and she introduced me to LEMI scholar classes and Well-Educated Heart. A partnership naturally and quickly evolved.

Our Mission

I am here to educate my heart, mind and spirit

so that I may become a leader of liberty, integrity and virtue;

to learn to think for myself, and discern truth from error,

and be prepared to arise and shine forth

that my light may be a standard for the world.”

That’s what our students recite during devotional every week. Our mission with 4L is to support families who choose to walk the road less traveled of homeschooling. We believe in mentoring, and we want to build a network and community of parent mentors who can benefit from each other’s talents, skills, and different experiences to offer their children the best education possible.

We know that children have a developmental need for peer interaction and we want to provide a place for them to gather and grow as they learn together. We also understand and value the unique differences in learners and learning styles and know that there are multiple intelligences. We seek to honor and nurture each child’s unique strengths while challenging them to reach their potential and overcome their weaknesses.

We are guiding, educating, and inspiring the builders and leaders of the future and we want them to be equipped with the tools they need to face the challenges of this unique time.

AT 4L we believe what this man said
about education and students:

“Whatever an education is, it should make you a unique individual, not a conformist; it should furnish you with an original spirit with which
to tackle the big challenges; it should allow
you to find values which will be your roadmap through life; it should make you spiritually
rich… it should teach you what is important.”

“Genius is an exceedingly common human
quality, probably natural to most of us.”

–John Taylor Gatto
